Numerous homemade smoking devices incorporate plastic bottles. Plastic bottles are easy-to-obtain for a relatively small price. They also offer a ready-made chamber with a relatively large volume, offering substantial hits. Bottles of any size can be used, though the fitting on differently sized bottles is often different, so often times more than one universal bottlecap attachment may need to be constructed to accommodate the variety of bottle sizes. The attachment can be used for nearly any smoking device involving a plastic bottle.

Universal Bottlecap Attachment

Pros: The universal bottlecap attachment offers a bowl fitting that can be used in a variety of settings for a number of useful and available bottle-based smoking devices. The availability of the materials is relatively high and the cost is relatively low. In the absence of any particular material, improvisations are fairly easy to make.

Cons: The size of the cap varies for different bottles, so more than one fitting may need to be made for more than one bottle size. The weed occasionally falls through the wrench socket, so utilizing a pipe screen is recommended.

Materials (See figure 1)

• Scissors, knife, nail, or sharp metal object to puncture the plastic.

• Lighter to heat up the scissors for puncturing smoothly.

• Bottlecap to fit the bottle.

• 3/8 inch or similar wrench socket to act as the bowl

• (Optional) Hot glue gun to secure everything in place

Construction

First, heat the tip of the scissors with the lighter for about 30-60 seconds. (See figure 2)

Next, puncture the bottlecap with the scissors and turn the scissors to form a hole approximately the size of the wrench socket. (See figure 3, figure 4 and figure 5)

Then place the wrench socket approximately half way into the bottlecap. (See figure 6)

Once you are satisfied with its position, secure the socket into place with the hot glue if you have it.   This will make a better seal than pressure alone, but hot glue can be hard to find. (See figure 7)

Now your universal bottlecap attachment is complete. (See figure 8) On its own, the universal bottlecap attachment is essentially useless, but it can be used in combination with a number of homemade smoking devices shown on this website. Variations

I find the directions shown here to be ideal for building the universal bottlecap attachment, but often times I find myself missing one or more element. If you lack a wrench socket, an aluminum foil bowl can be improvised in a similar procedure to the aluminum foil pipe. Hot glue is not an absolute must, but does help to form the seal. If you are missing hot glue, simply making the bottlecap hole slightly smaller than the socket and wiggling it into place can be just as effective. Other possible sealant materials include clay, sticky-tac, and even chewed gum!
